CD & DVD Design
Due to it's many legal issues, CD & DVD design can be very complicated to fit in all the regulations. Some bands want it one way, the manufacturers want it one way, the label want it one way then the legal requirements (barcode, logos, release info etc.) comes into it so it can be a long process... especially for commercially released product.
Promo items have fewer regulations and requirements, but if they are to be professionally and mass printed there are many specific ground rules. Most labels can send layout templated and proofs to work along to.
Initial consultation with the client determines whether it is a CD release or for vinyl and picture disc also. Th vinyl and picture disc can mean different layouts due to size and shape and must be higher resolution images. The Barcode and legal info on commercial releases must be placed and sized specifically, and logos (DVD, label) must be included along with release number. Both vinyl and CD require some sort of inlay and label/disc design.
DVD requires all the above information, plus Audio and Video details along with all information/features contained on the disc. DVD print and inlay layout design is additional to all the above specs.
I have created complete packages with, and without, original art. Again though, you must have copyright release or the original artists permission to use any art on a cover.
