FAQ
These are questions i've recieved and other general points i think you might need/want to know...
Genral:
Is your original work for sale?
Possibly... there is some that i cannot sell due to oriiginal clients wishes, personal reasons or shipping. But you can always send me a message (via the contact page) and ask.
Can i get a reproduction of any of your work?
That is less difficult but it depends on client, possibilty of copyright infringement or unauthorized use. In the past my work has been used by others with the other people taking credit. That will mean legal action being taken if requests to either credit me properly or removal of the offending images are ignored.
Where are you based?
Trondheim in Norway, although i am originally Scottish.
We/I don't have a large budget, can you help?
Yes... i actually prefer to work for the individual and smaller buisness. I know it can be an expensive process so i'm sure i can help.
How much do you cost?
I can only answer that depending on the client and job... again, contact me.
Do you have regular clients?
Yes, i have many regular clients in the Pub/Nightclub industry, Music and individuals... from Europe to the US.
If i want edits to the design, can you do that?
Yes, the initial design i will work with you to get it right, once you approve it is finished. If you want the same design with altered information for another date/use, that counts as another design altogether.
Do you give money back?
depending on the job i may require some payment for materials... but when you approve the final art you will then need to settle any outstanding balance.
Do you have stisfied clients?
Many, and soon i hope to set uo a testimonials page ;-)
Do i get the original art upon completion?
You need to make sure this is discussed at the begining of the job. As a rule i don't give out the layered/editable files for someone else to use. Usually you get the print-ready file and preview versions designed at your specifications. If you want to own all art, that will cost more depending on source materials and possible copyright issues. this is to protect myself and the client.
Graphic Design:
What can you do?
pretty much anything depending on timescale, source material and your budget. I specialize in quicker images, but i have also done highly detailed promotional work which has taken many days and even weeks.
Do you use copyrighted images?
No unless the client is holdiing the rights to the specific images. I use stock photography which is royalty free and/or my own original design.
Will you do a design with a celebrity's picture.
No, that is copyright infringement... so don't ask for a picture ofBeyoncé on a poster for your R&B night!
How long does it take from start to finish for a design to get to me?
It is impossible to say... but aSimple Nightclub Flyer/poster could take only a day whereas a complex promotional campaign could take weeks. I have been known to do very quick "emergency" work though but that depends on who the client is and current workload.
What format will i recieve the final work in?
The standard i do is a full-size .pdf file and a preview jpeg for digital use. If you want the source .psd file, that will be extra.
Can i get a copy of a previous design you have done?
Depends on the original client and any copyrights attached... general rule is if it was for a band, company or buisness then probably not.
Can i get a previous designs art only?
No, i may not have the source file any longer plus check the previous question.
What languages do you work in?
English and Norwegian and Spanish is no problem as is most languages with the QWERTY keyboard icons. Japanese, Arabic etc i cannot do due to having ti install languages and specific fonts... sorry
Airbrushing/Original Art:
What can you paint on?
Pretty much any surface but some surfaces are difficult, and a few impossible, to paint on. The surface will reflect the cost, for example a smooth prepared surface is ideal... a rough, untreated surface requiring much preperation is not practical as it requires a lot of time.
What items can you paint on?
Almost anything... i have painted: snowboards, skateboards, guitars, helmets, gas tanks Xbox's and even clothing. I do not have a dedicated spary shop, so vehicles can be difficult depending on locations available.
What artwork can you paint?
Within limits, pretty much anything. But don't expect an exact recreation of DaVinci's work! Again, i try to avoid copyrighted material unless the client can prove ownership. Also, airbrushing can requre masking for sharper edges so lest detiled work is less time consuming.
Are your paints safe?
I try to use water based for most work, but some jobs require oil or celulose based paints. Obviously for a childs bedroom mural, i'd use safe non toxic paint/ink. extrerior is usually oil based due to it's longevity being essential.
Web design:
What are your qualifications:
I am not qualified in any aspects of web design although i am self taught to a basic level and the websites i do are CSS, HTML and Flash Based.
Can you do large corporate sites:
No, i do not have the knowledge or the time to take on a dedicated large site.
What are your specialities:
Small websites for the individual or smaller buisness... preferably with minimal updating needed. Aslo i am pretty easy going for the design & layout you may want. I will however need ALL the information you will want online (photos, text, contact details etc.)
If there is any other question, please don't hesitate to contact me and i will be more than happy to help you.
Regards, Alan
